Our Approach
Learning Through Play, Relationships and Real Experiences
At Bilingual Day Nursery, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, secure and genuinely interested in what is happening around them.
Our approach is rooted in learning through play, strong relationships and real experiences. We give children the time, space and freedom to explore, while our practitioners know when to step in, ask a question, introduce a new idea or extend their learning.
Following Children’s Interests
Children’s interests are an important starting point for our learning. We observe what captures their attention and use this to create meaningful opportunities to explore, investigate and discover.
This might be anything from building a den, caring for animals or collecting leaves to becoming fascinated by insects, cooking, stories or vehicles. When children are interested and engaged, learning becomes something they actively want to be part of.
Purposeful Teaching
Learning through play does not mean leaving children to learn entirely by themselves.
Our practitioners use their knowledge of each child to provide purposeful experiences and thoughtful teaching. They introduce new vocabulary, model skills, ask questions, encourage children to think and help them make connections between what they already know and what they are discovering.
We carefully balance children’s own ideas and interests with the experiences and learning opportunities we know will help them develop.
Learning Inside and Outside
The environment is an important part of our approach. Children have opportunities to learn indoors, outdoors and through real-life experiences.
Our outdoor spaces provide room to move, explore, take appropriate risks and develop confidence and independence. Forest School and regular outdoor learning give children opportunities to investigate the natural world, solve problems, work together and learn through experiences that cannot always be recreated indoors.
Every Child Is Different
There is no single way for children to learn or develop.
We get to know each child as an individual and adapt our approach to their interests, personality, development and needs. Some children need time to watch before joining in; others are ready to get involved straight away. We give children the encouragement, support and space they need to become confident learners.
Preparing Children for What Comes Next
We want children to leave us feeling confident in themselves and excited about learning.
Through everyday experiences, children develop the skills they need for the next stage of their journey — including communication, independence, resilience, curiosity, problem-solving and the ability to build positive relationships with others.
For us, school readiness is not about getting children to sit still and complete worksheets. It is about helping them become confident, capable and curious children who are ready to take their next steps.
