Curriculum

At our nursery, we are proud to offer a carefully designed, bespoke curriculum that is unique to us and tailored to the children and families we support. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, we continuously review and develop our curriculum using the latest Early Years research, guidance and best practice, including the Government’s Best Start for Life framework. Our bilingual approach is woven naturally throughout the curriculum, with children experiencing Spanish through songs, stories, routines, conversations and play, through our one person-one language approach.

Our curriculum is shaped by the children in our care. We regularly assess the needs, interests and developmental stages of each cohort and adapt our provision accordingly, ensuring every child receives the support, experiences and opportunities they need to thrive. As our children change, so does our curriculum.

To ensure children are fully prepared for their next stage of education, we work closely with local primary schools. Each year, we consult Reception teachers to understand the skills, knowledge and behaviours they feel are most important for children starting school. We use this valuable feedback to review and strengthen our curriculum, ensuring children are developing the skills they need to confidently transition into the classroom.

A key focus of our curriculum is developing independence, confidence and resilience. We believe these life skills are just as important as academic learning. Children are supported to manage their own personal needs and develop essential self-care skills, including toileting, dressing, handwashing, personal hygiene, mealtimes and looking after their belongings. We want every child to leave us feeling confident in their abilities, ready to build friendships, embrace new experiences and become successful learners.

A significant part of our curriculum takes place outdoors, where children can explore, investigate and develop a meaningful connection with the natural world. We believe childhood should be filled with adventure, discovery and hands-on experiences. Whether children are digging in the mud, splashing in puddles, exploring the woods, searching for minibeasts, planting seeds or building dens, they are learning through real experiences that inspire curiosity and wonder.

We embrace the mess and magic of outdoor learning. Mud, dirt and nature are not obstacles to learning; they are powerful learning tools. Through exploration and play, children develop problem-solving skills, creativity, resilience, communication and confidence, while building an understanding and appreciation of the world around them.

Our approach is firmly rooted in learning through play. We follow children’s interests and natural curiosity, using these as a starting point for learning whilst ensuring activities are carefully planned to support what they need to learn next. This balance between child-led exploration and purposeful teaching helps children remain motivated, engaged and excited about learning.

Our experienced practitioners know every child as an individual. Through careful observation and strong relationships, they identify each child’s strengths, interests and next steps. Staff use this knowledge to create meaningful experiences and tailored learning opportunities that help every child make the very best possible progress. No two children are the same, and we believe their learning journey shouldn’t be either.

By combining high-quality teaching, exciting experiences, outdoor exploration and personalised next steps, we create a curriculum that is responsive, meaningful and unique to every child. Over the years, we have seen the transformational impact this approach can have. Children develop confidence, independence, resilience and a genuine love of learning, while making exceptional progress from their individual starting points.

Our ultimate goal is simple: to give every child the very best start in life. We want children to leave our nursery as confident, capable, independent young people who can manage their own needs, build positive relationships, think creatively, solve problems and step into the classroom ready to learn, achieve and flourish.

SEND and Inclusion

At Bilingual Day Nursery, we believe that every child is unique and deserves to feel valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all children and families are welcomed, respected and celebrated.

Our approach is centred around understanding each child as an individual. We recognise that children develop at different rates and in different ways, and we tailor our support, curriculum and learning experiences to meet their unique needs. Through careful observation, strong partnerships with families and a deep understanding of child development, we ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Each of our nursery sites has a qualified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO) who works closely with children, families and staff to provide support whenever it is needed. Our SENDCOs are available to guide families through every stage of the process, from identifying emerging needs to accessing additional support and specialist services.

Where appropriate, we work alongside a range of external professionals to ensure children receive the best possible support. This may include Speech and Language Therapists, Health Visitors, Early Years Inclusion Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists and other specialist agencies. Our SENDCOs coordinate referrals, attend meetings and help families navigate the support available to them.

We believe that parents and carers are experts on their own children, and partnership working is at the heart of our approach. By working together, sharing information and celebrating progress, we can ensure that every child receives the support they need to grow in confidence and achieve success.

Inclusion is not simply about meeting additional needs; it is about creating a community where everyone belongs. We celebrate diversity, recognise individual strengths and foster an environment where children learn to value themselves and others. Through this approach, we help children develop empathy, respect and understanding, preparing them for life in an increasingly diverse world.

Our goal is simple: for every child to feel safe, happy, included and empowered to reach their full potential, regardless of their starting point or individual needs.
